Why is grass green?

Why is grass green?

The answer is the key to life itself.

Isn’t grass amazing? To grow, grass converts sunlight into glucose, ensuring that life as we know it is able to renew itself. Essential to this process is chlorophyll, a chemical that absorbs the red and blue light that comes from the sun while bouncing green light towards our eyes. Because it contains a lot of chlorophyll, grass looks green.

In nature, of course, some grasses are a bluish green, others are almost golden, and there are all sorts of varieties in between. If green shades make your heart sing, why don’t you try taking inspiration from the humble grass blade and decorate your favourite space in several complimentary shades of this life-affirming colour?
